The Most Popular Computer Programming Languages of 2022

As in other technological areas, the popularity of programming languages changes rapidly. But what programming languages are popular in 2022? It might not surprise you that Python, SQL, Java, and JavaScript lead the pack.

According to a query of the Indeed job site for jobs in the United States on February 1, 2022, these are the top ten languages listed in postings:

1. Python
2. SQL
3. Java
4. JavaScript
5. C++
6. C
7. C#
8. HTML
9. CSS
10. R

A search of Google Trends for 2021 returned the same top ten list of languages, based on the average weekly score relative to Python’s score, for the year. Here is its top ten list, in order of interest level as captured in Google search records:

1. Python
2. Java
3. SQL
4. JavaScript
5. HTML
